Bootstrap Methods and Their Application (Cambridge Series in Statistical and Probabilistic Mathematics , No 1)
Published in Paperback by Cambridge University Press (November, 1997)
Authors: A. C. Davison and D. V. Hinkley
Average review score:

you get your money's worth
This book is loaded with good text book examples and covers a wide variety of bootstrap applications. It is great as a reference book on the bootstrap or as a course text at a graduate level. Chernick (1999) is a little more up-to-date and covers the classifcation error rate estimation problem that is not addressed in this text. Chernick (1999) also has many more references. Efron and Tibshirani (1993) is another fine text that is a little more intuition based with less mathematics. Fieller's problem with ratio estimation and some other gems are well covered in Efron and Tibshirani but not here. Davison and Hinkley do the best job on time series of any of the bootstrap books with details about moving block bootstrap and some interesting applications.

Exceptionally clear, concise and practical
This book has an excellent ballance between practice and theory. It presents the bootstrap as the powerful tool it is through the ellucidation of practical issues. I strongly recommend this book for everyone interested in improving statistical practice.

Book has my vote
Relevant and clear in explanations throughout.

Introduction To Guitar: Book 1
Published in Plastic Comb by Davison Publishing (15 August, 1996)
Author: Johnnie Davison
Average review score:

Mandatory Book for Learning to Play
I began learning to play guitar almost exactly two years ago with this book. Since that time, I have gone through all six books in this series, Introduction to Guitar 1 and 2, Intermediate Guitar 1 and 2, and Advanced Guitar 1 and 2. The genre of music that I concentrate on is Hot Blues but these books teach theory, practical application and technique that are applicable to any style with either electric or acoustic. Before I started, I had no idea how the world's great guitarists performed their improvisational solos. Now I am able to improvise solos myself and have learned how to integrate them into the structure of the song. This is only one example of many things I have learned to do with the help of these books. The format is easy to understand and laid out in a logical manner and should be easily understood by children as well. The spiral binding is good since the books can be laid flat for viewing while playing. I can't really think of anything negative to say. I highly recommend the Davison series. In fact, If you are serious, I think they are mandatory for learning to play.

excellent
My son has bought the first three books in this series during the past nine months, and he's made amazing progress. The books emphasize improvisational techniques, and are ideal for students who are really serious about learning how to play the guitar. Highly recommended.

introduction to guitar
Very well written and informative. I'm a guitar instructor myself and I teach from these books.

Cakewalk
Published in Unknown Binding by L A Theatre Works (August, 2002)
Authors: Peter Feibleman, Bruce Davison, and Elaine Stritch
Average review score:

No border between stage and audience
Elaine Stritch is Lillian Hellman herself, showing her stubbornness and fragility very well. I'm touched by Bruce Davison's calm narration with passion reserved inside.

What I like "Cakewalk" best is no border between stage and audience. Listening to this audio, I feel like I've been living with two writers in the very same place and time, sharing their joy, anger, pain and struggle as a writer and human. All scenes with full-color appear before us, then we are not an observer any more. This will invite you to consider what real relationship is. Peter Feibleman is the greatest natural born artist.

A fabulous find.
Elaine Stritch is incredible in this recording. Though I have only minor familiarity with Lillian Hellman, this play is simultaneously light and dark, humorous and serious, and a perfect portrait of two artists together through time. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.

LILLIAN HELLMAN - OFF STAGE
Elaine Strich becomes legendary novelist/playwright Lillian Hellman in this sometimes scathing, often tumultuous, frequently poignant account of Hellman's long term relationship with a man 25 years younger than she. There's wit, there's passion - all delivered by an A-one cast performing live in Los Angeles.

Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Massachusetts General Hospital
Published in Paperback by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Publishers (15 June, 2002)
Authors: William E. Hurford, Michael T. Bailin, J. Kenneth Davison, Kenneth L. Haspel, Carl Rosow, Susan A. Vassallo, and Nicholas E. Awde
Average review score:

Anesthesia from A to Z
"Clinical Anesthesia Procedures of the Massuchussets General Hospital" offers concise yet thorough coverage on all aspects of anesthesia. From preoperative visit to basic airway management, from fluid requirements of the surgical patient to specific considerations on cardiac, respiratory and liver diseases, this book has it all in an easily accesible way, especially when your above the "blood-brain barrier". I would especially recomend the chapter on resuscitation of trauma and burns victims, because of the thorough coverage of the subject, better than in many surgical textbooks I have read.

Excellent Teaching Tool and Reference!
I have over 15 years of experience as an anesthesiologist at the prestigious Yale-New Haven Hospital in Connecticut. I've seen it all; however, this text challenged me. I highly recommend it, and every practicing MD and CRNA should have a copy to review and use as a teaching tool and guide.

This is the only book you'll need in anesthesia!
This book encapsulates all the necessary information for clinical practice of anesthesia. It also includes MANY charts and protocols for drugs, malignant hypothermia, ACLS, etc. I can't enter the OR without it.

Handweaver's Pattern Book
Published in Hardcover by Marquerite Davison (December, 1951)
Authors: Marguerite Porter Davison and Charles C. Denzler
Average review score:

The only 4-harness pattern book you'll ever need!!!
I have been using this book for over 15 years. It is easy to find the perfect pattern for a weaving project, and you only have to be able to follow a very simple diagram to do the tieup and weave. Many other books have entered and left my studio over the past 15 years....this is the only one I have kept......sw

Everything
I grew up with this book, and still consider it the most important one in my collection. It contains photos, threading, tie-down and treadling for nearly every type of weave, plus, each chapter begins with valuable general information about the weaves in that chapter.

It is a great book when you want a no-nonsence reference.

If there is one book every weaver should own it is this one.
Truly, this is the book every weaver should have. Why? It contains, in a simple manner, many of the basic patterns used by every weaver. The instructions, tie-ups, draw downs - well, every aspect of this book makes the weaving of the time honored and time tested patterns a fairly easy process. So much of weaving refers to patterns that are within the cover of this book. Ms. Davison's work to preserve the ageless patterns is well worth the price. Buy it, read it, use it, and pass it on to someone you love in your will.

Chilling, confrontational and exposing of the geomentallity.
This geomentally challenging journey into pure estivation is so abstractually written, it cries of the Socratic method. This read promises a ravenous hunger for more.

Carlos and the Squash Plant / Carlos y la planta de calabaza
Published in Hardcover by Rising Moon (October, 1993)
Authors: Jan Romero Stevens, Arnold Jeanne, Jeanne Arnold, Patricia H. Davison, and Mary Fernald
Average review score:

Carlos and the squash plant
This book is extremely funny. Most of the children hate to take baths. This book has beautiful colored pages and the Spanish language is clear, fluent and well used. I recommend this book to be use in the classroom for English language learners or for dual inmersion settings.

Carlos hates to take a bath
I am a Kindergarten teacher who has read this book to many classes. They love it! Many little children relate to Carlos and his aversion to baths. I understand there are flaws in the translation, but, as a read aloud for children it scores big.

Mastering the Rockefeller Habits: What You Must Do to Increase the Value of Your Fast-Growth Firm
Published in Hardcover by SelectBooks (March, 2002)
Author: Verne Harnish
Average review score:

Must Read for All Change Agents
I am delighted with Mastering the Rockefeller Habits-it exceeded my expectations. As one familiar with Verne Harnish's background and experience, I was expecting a no-nonsense, to-the-point, application-oriented book of immediate value to entrepreneurs. This is there in spades. What I found above and beyond this was a plan of action complete with tools applicable for any size organization or function within a company attempting significant change. The non-profit I research and write for is tasked with helping product-centered companies transition to services-led businesses. The opportunities and roadblocks that Harnish lays out for the small, fast-growth company are almost identical to the issues and obstacles found in the start-up businesses trying to incubate in large corporate parents. Therefore, the principles and tools found in Mastering the Rockefeller Habits align perfectly with the needs of those organizations trying to create new, fast growth services business inside their corporations, no matter their size. Foundation of both research and experience, easy to read, and immediate application. I am recommending this book to all our constituents.

Keep it Simple, that's the Secret to Dynamic Growth
"The fundamental ideas that produce real market value and owner wealth today are based on the same 'habits' John D. Rockefeller employed to master the oil industry." So says Verne Harnish, author of Mastering the Rockefeller Habits. During America's early oil-boom, tycoon John D. Rockefeller's disciplined approach to business replaced the helter-skelter methods of the original pioneering speculators. "These important disciplines need to be embraced by all companies that want to prosper in the upcoming decade," avers expert Harnish, founder of Gazelles, Inc. and creator of the Master of Business Dynamics program. His new book offers up the tools and habits Rockefeller implemented with such notable success.

Harnish is a man with a mission: to help entrepreneurs of emerging, fast-growth companies increase the value of their firms. He has spent nearly two decades working with the CEOs and executive teams of fast growth firms.

Says former client Alan Rudy, CEO of Columbus, Ohio's Express Med, "Everyone talks about the 'entrepreneurial glass ceiling' and advises you to 'let go,' 'delegate more,' 'concentrate on alignment,' 'be unique,' 'remain nimble as your company grows,' etc., but no one, until now, ever gives you a practical guide on how to achieve all of that and keep your sanity." Complex problems may have simple solutions. Harnish says the secret is strategically smart decisions coupled with a team closely aligned and accountable to those decisions. Alan Rudy and thousands of other business owners have benefited directly from the simple and practical "tools" outlined in Mastering the Rockefeller Habits.

"Today's execs have little patience for anything except that which they can put to work immediately, " says Harnish. "My program brings solid solutions to the challenges that come with building a company." Harnish's now-famous "Mastering a One Page Strategic Plan" process has been a best-selling article on the web. Now his new book from SelectBooks is a compilation of best practices adapted from some of the best-run firms on the planet. Included is an instructive chapter co-authored by Rich Russakoff revealing winning tactics to get financial backing from banks.

Verne is the small business growth guru
For any entrepreneur who is planning on growing their company, Mastering the Rockefeller Habits is the one book to read. Use this as a manual, I have, and it has made all the difference in the world. It's practical, intelligent, and easy to read and follow.

Chameleons: Their Care and Breeding
Published in Paperback by Hancock House Pub Ltd (July, 1997)
Author: Linda J. Davison
Average review score:

One of the best.
One of the best Cham books out there for beginners. Chameleon husbandry Information is hard to find in book form. I as one of the above reviewers stated also have all the cham books on husbandry on amazon[.com], and this one is the best. I recommend finding a breeder and talking to them, that is the only way to get the most up to date info on chameleon care.

The Definitive Book on Chameleon Husbandry
If you are a new chameleon hobbiest owner or are about to take that plunge into chameleon ownership, this is the ONLY book you will need.

It covers feeding, caging, care specific to many different and exotic species, and basic medical information as well. The book is well written and covers topics thoroughly. The pictures are superb and the author's personal experience keeping chameleons and other herps is very reassuring and lends to her credibility. I wish I had got this book first, if I had, I would have never bought the deVosjoli or Bartlett books. I spent way more than twice the cost of Davison's book buying 5 or 6 other books about chameleons--all of which have outdated, incorrect and/or incomplete information.

I WAS LOOKING FOR THE QUINESSENTIAL BOOK, WRITTEN FOR THE HOBBIEST, ON THE HUSBANDRY (aka CARE) OF CHAMELEONS.....I OWN EVERY ONE OF THE BOOKS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ON AMAZON.COM IF YOU DO A SEARCH FOR "CHAMELEON" OR "CHAMELEONS" BUT, I PROMISE YOU, NONE COMPARE TO LINDA DAVISON'S BOOK! SHE HAS GIVEN US A BOOK THAT IS AS CLOSE AS YOU CAN GET TO FINDING THE PROVERBIAL DEFINITIVE BOOK.

P.S. If you are a chameleon owner and you do NOT have this book, no kidding, you do NOT know what you are missing!

top notch book
this is the book to get. what more can be said. seems pricey but it is worth every penny.

Birds, Beasts and Relatives
Published in Audio Cassette by G K Hall Audio Books (July, 1986)
Authors: Gerald Malcolm Durrell and Peter Davison
Average review score:

Another fix of Durrell family fun
I eagerly read this after "My Family and Other Animals" (which I had enjoyed immensely). It contains stories which were omitted from "My Family" and while the offerings were still magical and wonderfully well-written and sometimes hilarious (especially the story about the turtle), it lacked the memorability of its predecessor. There was also no real structure in the order of the stories, this is more of a miscellaneous collection.

My family and other animals
I read Gerald Durrell's books 10 years ago, while I was still living in Romania. I loved his books from the first page to the last and literally I couldn't put them down until I finished them. The best humour I ever met in books! His stile is unique. I am planning on reading all of them again in English. I would recommend them to anyone!

Magical!
The second book on his family's 5 years in Corfu, it follows in the footsteps of My Family and Other Animals as a brilliantly funny and fascinating book. Mr. Durrell has kept me in stitches for over 16 years and with each reread, I find myself enjoying the book more
